Is Television Causing Child Obesity? With the advancement of technology, the world has changed dramatically over the last 20 years. The television is no exception to this. It doesn't seem long ago that there were only a few channels to choose from when watching the TV but nowadays there are literally hundreds and hundreds of channels you can choose from. So the television is now widely blamed for causing child obesity. It is a common occurrence nowadays that children come straight home from school and sit down in front of the TV and don't move all night. This lack of activity means children aren't getting the proper exercise that they should be. And quite often they sit eating un-healthy products such as crisps and chocolate which just leads them to put on weight. Games consoles also mean children are sitting in front of the TV more often than they used to. The new Nintendo or PlayStation always has new games coming out regularly which are very addictive and lead to children sitting for hours on end just playing the games. As a parent it is vital to try and stop television causing child obesity. If you notice that your child is putting on weight, then there are many things you can do to try and help them. These can be simple things such as making them eat healthily whilst they are sat in front of the TV, or you can even take them out and try playing sports with them such as football or basketball. Any activity that involves them moving around will burn off calories and make them more healthy. Even encouraging them to take the dog for a walk is a great way for them to get more exercise and is great for the dog too! There are many health risks involved in child obesity, so making sure your child is fit and healthy is crucial. Try to limit the amount of television that they are allowed to watch each day and make sure they always exercise regularly. You can even give them a limit of maybe one hour per day that they can sit in front of the television or playing their games. These rules may seem strict, but at the end of the day it's your child's health that you are helping. An obese Child is not a healthy child, and you should do whatever you can to help them and one day when they are older they will thank you for it! |
