The history of obesity can be traced back for many years but the alarming factor is how quickly it is currently rising every single year. Only if we look at the figures do you realise just how shocking this really is. More than 300,000 people die in America alone by illnesses caused from being overweight. And the cost that has been placed on obesity is older a staggering $100 billion!
One of the main problems is obesity doesn't just affect adults, there is an alarming trend in a huge rise in childhood obesity. Quite often, this can be genetic but more than often it is caused by simply a poor diet and lack of exercise in the child. It doesn't take a genius to work out that with more and more fast-food restaurants such as McDonald's appearing on every street corner almost that this is giving children and easy way to eat more often than not unhealthy food. And more often than not a child is never happier than when they are sat in front of their TV playing on their Playstation. In fact, many of them will sit for hours and hours playing games without moving at all. If you have kids of your own then you'll no doubt know they like nothing more than coming home from school, going straight to their room and will stay there all night playing on their favourite game.
Still looking back at the history of obesity, we can only blame our own culture why this problem is increasing all the time. There are many, many things we can do to bring down the number of obese people in the world. If we can do this, then this will save millions and millions that can be used for other purposes. Becoming more active is the best way to burn more calories and lose weight. You should always try to walk or run at least 20 minutes a day. This will ensure that your heart stays in healthy condition. Also, if you know someone who is overweight you should always try to support them and give them encouragement as best you can. Quite often, people who are heavily overweight will shy away from being sociable, so any support you can give them will be greatly appreciated.
Obesity can be cured. But if it gets too bad then problems that come with it may turn out to be irreversible. Problems such as diabetes and heart conditions are common illnesses suffered by people who are obese. So catching and dealing with the illness at an early stage is vital and they should be your primary goal.
