Dealing With Childhood ObesityThere has been an increase of childhood obesity over the last few years especially in America. The statistics are actually quite frightening, as over 15% of children aged between six and 11 and also of a 15% aged between 12 and 19 are all overweight. The statistics show that childhood obesity is rising all the time and this can lead to many illnesses and health problems. Problems such as hypertension, heart disease and even diabetes are all related to obesity. So this is something that certainly shouldn't be taken lightly. If you think your child may be suffering from obesity, then you should really try your best to do something about it. With the advancement of technology this is leading to a real inactivity in children today. Many will choose to stay at home and play video games or watch television instead of becoming active and playing sport or recreation of some kind. And whilst they are sat down playing their video games, they will eat very unhealthy foods at the same time, such as crisps, chocolate and have drinks that are very high in sugar content. So this diet of high sugar and high carbohydrates and lack of exercise leads to an increasing weight in most children. It is vital to your child's health that you educate them in all aspects of their own health. You should encourage them to eat healthy food and exercise as much as they can. If you simply do nothing about it, your child will continue to put on weight until they become very unhealthy and could even start suffering from one of the many diseases associated with childhood obesity. There are many recent changes to school meals which will help with your child nutrition. These include bringing in healthy food groups and removing some of the snack and vending machines in many schools. These new guidelines and sure your child gets a healthy meal every day. You should also encourage your child not to visit fast-food restaurants and eat items such as burgers and chips etc. Obviously sometimes this will be impossible to do is you can't watch them every second of the day but you should really try to educate them in how unhealthy the food is and what may happen if they continue to eat un-healthily and have a lack of exercise. If they do have to visit one of these restaurants, then many of them now have healthy options on the menu as well as the normal food. Hopefully these tips will guide you to playing a more vital role in your child's health. Childhood obesity can cause many illnesses which can sometimes even lead to death, so if you think your child is suffering from obesity you should get them checked out by a suitably qualified medical person as soon as possible. |
